{"id":10084,"date":"2016-10-25T08:21:13","date_gmt":"2016-10-25T06:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/us.syspro.com\/blog\/uncategorized\/the-evolution-of-the-manufacturing-landscape\/"},"modified":"2016-10-25T08:21:13","modified_gmt":"2016-10-25T06:21:13","slug":"the-evolution-of-the-manufacturing-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/us.syspro.com\/blog\/erp-for-manufacturing\/the-evolution-of-the-manufacturing-landscape\/","title":{"rendered":"The Evolution of the Manufacturing Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have attended a number of manufacturing events recently, including our own UK customer event.\u00a0 In talking to manufacturers at those events it\u2019s struck me how the requirements for information within manufacturing is really changing.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s changing on three fronts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The introduction of the Millennial generation to the workplace and how they use data. These people grew up with Google, were never taught how to use an index and don\u2019t know what an encyclopaedia is.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to use low cost analytics and cloud technology to make sense of data. Once over data storage was expensive, let alone the computing power to start analysing huge amounts of structured and unstructured data.\u00a0 Now this technology is available to everyone, at a very low entry level.<\/li>\n<li>The ability for the \u201cinternet of intelligent things\u201d to capture and return huge amounts of data. Historically we were limited to data that was essentially generated by a human interface, slowly it began to move towards data also being generated by, for example, machines on the shop floor.\u00a0 Now literally billions of devices have sensors in them that can be connected into the \u201cInternet of Things\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These three changes work together to create a landscape of rapid evolution of information requirements.\u00a0 It\u2019s no longer acceptable to go and hunt for information, run reports or plow through paperwork in order to \u201cspot a pattern.\u201d\u00a0 Not only is it no longer acceptable, given the amount of data now available to us, it\u2019s no longer viable either.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why at SYSPRO we are constantly driving analytics, social collaboration and intelligent devices into everything that we do.<\/p>\n<p>We recognize that the next generation of manufacturers are here.\u00a0 They want to engage with the information in their ERP system through their other social media applications \u2013 like messenger, Skype or WhatsApp.\u00a0 Asking questions of the \u201cSYSPRO Bot\u201d and getting not only information back, but taking action too.<\/p>\n<p>We recognize that data comes from many sources now, not just transactions, but intelligent devices out in the field.\u00a0 So we create the infrastructure around SYSPRO to hold that data and to service it up to other applications that need to access it \u2013 including cloud services that use the data, in combination with machine learning, to surface insights such as predicted failure rates, preventing downtime, spotting early quality issues or even identifying negative customer sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>We understand that insight has to be surfaced, so that people can spend their time taking decisive action that will add value to their businesses.\u00a0 Information relating to last month is no longer sufficient \u2013 its predicting <em>next <\/em>month\u2019s information that counts.<\/p>\n<p>At the recent UK conference, SYSPRO\u2019s Chief Innovation Officer and Chief Product Officer wow\u2019ed our customers with what\u2019s possible in SYSPRO now and in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s certainly an exciting time to be in business.\u00a0 In a world of economic uncertainty, utilizing technology in order to build a realistic future scenario and
